Abstract
Recent progress in development of tunable midinfrared gas lasers and their application at Riken is reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the development of a high average power TEA CO2 laser with an all-solid-state exciter, which will be used as a pump source of a para-H2 rotational Raman laser. A 1-kHz operation of the TEA CO2 laser and its scaling to vary high power are described. Widely-tunable wavelength conversion of TEA CO2 laser based on stimulated rotational Raman scattering is also discussed.
