Abstract
The bearing of a large-scale equipment in a chemical plant broke down in the process of operation. The outer ring of the bearing was found cracked after downtime. In this paper, the failure analysis for the cracking cause of the bearing ring is carried out by means of macroscopic inspection, chemical composition analysis, hardness testing and metallographic examination. The results show that the main reason for the cracking failure of the bearing ring is the contact fatigue cracking of the bearing ring under the joint action of contact stress and alternating stress in service.
