Discussions of future defense technology often call for new technology development and frequently use such words as “Disruptive”, “Transformative”, “Radical”, and “Revolutionary”. However, they often find there is a mis-match between what was discussed and what is put forward as potential solutions. This is due in many cases to using words that do not have agreed upon definitions. This discussion presents definitions for each, aligns them to an emerging Innovation Model (the 4GIM) which provides expected metrics, and ends with the use of a Modified Strategy Canvas that enables strategy gaps to be readily compared to new capability contribution.
