Abstract
This paper focuses on the current status of the Additive Manufacture (AM) of lighting, lamps and luminaires. The fundamental technology, that combines free-form, 5 axis 3D printing of structural and electronic components, Surface Mount Device (SMD) placement and pre- and post-processing techniques, is described. The State-of-the-Art of the manufacturing process chain is demonstrated by way of a proof-of-concept of a 3D Printed lamp. The manufacturing the lamp from design concept through the manufacturing process that includes CAD/CAM operations, 3D printing and glass cover manufacturing is presented. The outlook in terms of product certification requirements, potential to scale to series production (lot sizes to 10k) and also repair the lamp are considered.
