Abstract
Rapeseed oil is one of the most widely produced edible oils in the world and has a broad market prospect. The moisture content of rapeseed raw material directly affects the oil yield and oil quality. Microwave technology has been proved to be useful for measuring the moisture content of materials. An open microstrip resonant ring (MRR) sensor based on microwave technology was developed in this paper. The dielectric properties of the measured material are derived according to the S21-parameters of the sensor. A rapeseed moisture test platform consisting of a vector network analyzer, a MRR sensor and a container was built to verify the applicability of the density-independent algorithm in moisture of rapeseed measurement. The coefficient of determination of this density-independent algorithm is 0.982 The dielectric properties of rapeseed are divided by the moist bulk density of rapeseed and a density-independent function is obtained through a series of numerical fitting. The results show that the density-independent function can obtain accurate prediction results when the moisture content is 3 to 18%, and the standard performance errors are 0.821%. We designed a low-cost MRR sensor, derived the complex dielectric properties of the material based on the S21-parameters of this sensor, and extended the applicability of a density-independent algorithm, which together demonstrated the potential for accurate moisture measurement in rapeseed.
