Abstract
With the continuous expansion of university campuses, campus navigation has become crucial for every student. Traditional campus navigation systems face challenges in simultaneously handling indoor and outdoor navigation. Moreover, these systems typically rely on 2D navigation maps, requiring users to integrate real-world surroundings with the map, leading to increased complexity. In response to these challenges, we propose an Augmented Reality (AR) campus navigation system based upon ARCore. This system leverages ARCore to present 3D information in real-world scenes, enhancing the user experience. Additionally, we incorporate indoor ranging algorithms for real-time positioning and map generation on mobile devices, specifically tailored for indoor navigation. The development is carried out using Unity3D scripts to enhance usability and adaptability. Experiments conducted at XXX University demonstrate that our designed campus navigation system outperforms outdoor positioning accuracy compared to navigation systems by Amap and Baidu. Furthermore, it excels in indoor navigation capabilities, seamlessly integrating 3D information with the real environment, resulting in an improved user experience. Through evaluations with multiple groups of students, our system demonstrates superior functionality, usability, and adaptability.
