Abstract

A large volume XeCl laser has been equipped with a confocal positive branch unstable resonator (CPBUR), obtaining a near diffraction-limited beam, with a brightness of > 10¹⁴W/(cm²sr). Focusing the radiation, an intensity of about 10¹²W/cm² is reached on a copper target, generating an x-ray emitting plasma in the region of 100 eV, with pulse length up to 100 ns.
