Abstract
A new sensor planning paradigm composed of parametric and structural sensor planning is presented. A hierarchically distributed perception net (HDPN) is introduced to represent a sensing architecture. The parametric planning achieves the desired accuracy of HDPN outputs by iteratively modifying the sensing parameters, whereas the structural planning configures an optimal HDPN by self-organizing redundant sensing. This paper provides a general, yet formal and efficient, method of representing and solving a sensor planning problem for an integrated sensor system.
