Abstract
We propose a generally applicable velocity matching method for efficient THz generation by optical rectification of ultrashort light pulses below the phonon frequency. It is based on tilting of the pulse front of the visible pump pulse. In a proof of principle experiment tuning of the THz output in the 9.0 - 10.7 THz range is demonstrated. Results of model calculations on the tunability and efficiency are presented. (Summary only available)
