Abstract
This paper presents a portable optical measurement device named "optical rosette." Conical mirrors are used to make an ESPI interferometer with true radial in-plane sensitivity. Data acquired from this interferometer is used to measure in-plane rigid body translations, stresses and stresses gradients. A portable unit was developed and tested and its measurement performance is here evaluated. A modified multi-path Michelson interferometer was used as a reference measurement and rigid body translations in 2D were measured with a repeatability of ± 10 nm. Mechanical devices were used to generate a reference state stresses and stresses gradients. The performance of this unit to measure these quantities is also evaluated. Some examples involving industrial applications of this unit are also presented in this paper.
