Abstract
Relatively inexpensive multiprocessor off-the-shelf computer systems have emerged as viable alternatives for high-performance, low-cost adaptive optics (AO) real-time computing. The performance of the AO systems depends on the number of active elements, sampling frequency and processing speed of the multiplication of matrices as a generic operation in this scientific application. Addressed questions are the limitations off-the-shelf computers for growing size AO systems at hight sampling frequency, matrix per vector multiplication performance and it's repeatability.
