Abstract
The recent development of 2D materials and photonic systems enabled the exploration of the twist degree of freedom. By adjusting the relative orientations of two adjacent layered structures, new phenomena such as Moire pattern enabled properties emerge, leading to unprecedented opportunities in tuning the light-matter interactions in both electronic materials and photonic systems. My group has been exploring the similarity and distinction between 2D electronic materials and their photonic counterparts. Here I’d like to introduce some of our recent findings that my group has made on the twisted degree of freedom in 2D systems, including the realization of controllable and continuous twist of 2D van der Waals materials and the exploration on the tunable optical response of the twisted van der Waals materials as well as the twisted photonic crystals.
