Abstract
The ray optic evaluation method of gradient-index (GRIN) rod lenses is described. The feature of this method is to utilize the fact that the ray path in an inhomogeneous refractive index medium is determined uniquely by the initial condition given externally. Some numerical examples of the ray tracing on one-quarter pitch and one-half pitch GRIN lenses and simple expressions corresponding to the refractive index profile are shown.
