This paper proposes a variable blaze angle echelette reflection grating applicable to the quasi-optical millimeter wave region with the necessary theory. With our mechanism, the blaze angle can be varied to get the optimum diffraction efficiency for the desired wavelength with the same instrument. Such a grating appears to have promising application in millimeter wave astronomy. Its diffraction efficiency as a function of blaze angle and operating wavelength is obtained.
