SC529: Data Mining, Data Analysis, and Data Warehousing for Biomedical Applications
Basic concepts of data mining, data warehousing, and on-line analytical processing are introduced. Data mining algorithms extract meaningful relationships from databases and can be applied in variety of biomedical domains. For example, based on the prior data, the knowledge for disease diagnosis can be extracted, therapeutically relevant patterns of microarray data can be detected, medication type and dosage can be customized to an individual patient, new drugs can be more effectively developed, and so on. Data warehouses integrate data from numerous traditional (transactional) databases for ease of analysis with on-line analytical processing and data mining tools. The concepts introduced in the course are illustrated with biomedical examples and software tools.
