Dr. Max's interests include developing laser guide star adaptive optics into a highly useful tool for astronomers, and using these systems to study supermassive black holes in the cores of colliding galaxies. She is the Director of the Center for Adaptive Optics at UC Santa Cruz, which includes applications for both astronomy and vision science (imaging the living human retina).
