SC1087: Fiber Bragg Gratings: Production, Modeling and Applications
Fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are key elements in the construction of integrated fiber optic systems. Using gratings inscribed into optical fibers, miniature components can be constructed which perform the functions of bulk components such as narrow and broad band mirrors, dispersion compensators, beam combiners and prism couplers. This course covers the fundamentals of FBGs as well as recent developments like ultrashort pulse FBG inscription and multimode FBGs. The emphasis of this course is on specific applications, e.g. monolithic fiber laser cavities and cladding mode sensors.
