Abstract
Shortage of fresh water resources has become a global problem. Rational utilization of subsurface brackish water resources for agricultural irrigation was an effective way to ease the serious shortage of fresh water resources. This paper firstly introduces the background and irrigation methods of brackish water irrigation.Then it summarizes the effects on crop growth, yield, quality and soil of brackish water irrigation. It was suggested that further research on brackish water irrigation should be conducted in the following aspects: 1) establishing crop growth model; 2)establishing soil water and salt migration model, strengthening the simulation of long-term change process, while realizeing the scale transformation and long-term prediction of model; 3)strengthening vegetation protection and ecological restoration under brackish water irrigation. It provides guidance and help for the theory and practice of brackish water irrigation technology in the future.
