Abstract
The thesis adopts industrial concentration index, city industry transfer undertaking index and other analytical methods to analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of 84 cities above prefecture level in western China in undertaking manufacturing transfer, and the study shows that: (1) There are 15 manufacturing center cities and about 10 cities with manufacturing external service functions in the west, gathering about 8.1%-9.3% of the total urban manufacturing population in the country; (2) Between 2010 and 2019, the overall change in manufacturing center cities in the western region was relatively small, and the number of cities transferring in manufacturing increased, but more than half of the cities were those transferring out of manufacturing, indicating that the growth rate of the manufacturing population in the west was generally lower than that in the eastern and central regions. (3) There is an obvious geospatial proximity effect for cities in the western region to undertake the transfer of manufacturing, and the hotspot areas in the western region to undertake the transfer of manufacturing has changed significantly during 2010-2019.
