Much interest currently exists in the use of two or more simultaneous spectral bands to create a ''fused'' image of a scene to aid in detection and discrimination of targets. The use of multiple simultaneous spectral bands in an image fusion processor provides sufficient spectral diversity to allow discernment of objects that are difficult to detect in any single band. Feature enhancement processes, some of which can be implicit in the fusion algorithms, can also be applied as appropriate to highlight shadows and objects or areas of interest. Fusion processing has been implemented and demonstrated on various combinations of FLIR, TV, and laser radar imagery.
