Abstract
Beams that exhibit limited spread (non-diffractive beams) produce signals with low contrast. The analysis and design of a new beam configuration aimed to achieve an acceptable modulation transfer function when used for scanning purposes, while at the same time providing a substantial increase of the working range compared to that obtained for Gaussian beams are described. Computer simulation results are presented as well.
