Abstract
This paper describes a new Sagnac heterodyne interferometric birefringent fiber strain sensor which is based on the frequency modulation continuous wave technique and consists of a single 100 meter birefringent fiber ring. The strain variation of the fiber ring can be measured with 4 microstrain resolution and 5000 microstrain dynamic measurement range. Other advantages of the sensor, such as, simple configuration, simple signal processing and long sensing fiber are demonstrated in this experiment.
