Abstract
The detection of small targets in IR images is a problem requiring the enhancement of target signal and the suppression of clutter noise in the image. Classical methods require an a priori knowledge on target and clutter characteristics. We use a robust adaptive clutter whitener (RAWC) filter based on robust estimation of background texture parameters in order to whiten the clutter present in IR images. The output of this RAWC filter is then passed on Marr 2D wavelet filter for performing the optimal point target detection. Experimental results indicate the significant improvement over standard detection algorithm.
