Abstract

A numerical variational procedure for determining the field propagating in an optical fiber near to the cutoff frequency is presented. The obtained field representation is used to evaluate the cutoff frequency shift of the LP₁₁ mode occurring in optical fibers when cabling effects are taken into acount.
