We describe the formation and the properties of biosensing units based on the cholesteric liquid-crystalline dispersions
of the double-stranded nucleic acid molecules. The resulting biosensing units are proved to be sensitive to the presence
of some relevant chemical or biological compounds in a liquid to be analyzed.
