Abstract
The functional devices based on nonlinear characteristics of optical waveguides - fiber and planar - are perspective for signal processing in fiber-optical systems and transmission networks. Among the most effective devices of such type are widely applied a nonlinear optical loop mirror and devices of generation of a supercontinuum in nonlinear fibers. In the report the outcomes of the analysis of the characteristics some of these devices are represented in view of their interaction with other units both sites of systems and networks of a fiberoptic communication: by optical amplifiers, wave converters, photonic switches. The comparative efficiency of nonlinear optical waveguide arrangements in modem perspective fiber-optical transmission networks is rated.
