Abstract
The nano-scale luminescent complex of Terbium-benzoic acid with the Tb(III) ion as the luminescent center and the introduced benzoic acid as the ligand was synthesized in the polyvinylpyrrolidone matrix. The complex was proved to be well-crystallized as shown in XRD and the chemical formula was speculated to be PVP/TbL3 by elemental analysis, Inductively Coupled Plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and Fourier-transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). TG-DTA indicated that the complex is thermally stable up to 533°C.TEM images showed that the complex was spherical with diameters in the nano size range. The synthesized complex exhibited the characteristic emission bands for the Tb(III) ion under ultraviolet excitation by the Photoluminescence analyses.
