Abstract
We present a series of algorithms and preliminary work towards developing a fully autonomous and real-time lightning severity prediction capability enabling one hour ahead forecasting based on local lightning strike characteristics. Our approach characterizes total, cloud to cloud, and cloud to ground strikes as input variables to derive the number of strikes
