20 May 2011 Autostereoscopic 2D/3D display using liquid crystal lens and its applications for tablet PC

Abstract
This work describes a novel scheme, in which LC material is used to form a lenticular lens array in order to achieve 2D and autostereoscopic 3D display on a 10.1-inch (1366×768 pixels) LCD panel. Optimized design parameters of the 3D display are also derived by theoretical analyses. Additionally, the LC lens configuration and the lenticular-type 3D display model are constructed by analyzing the LC properties and optical characteristics based on simulation software, respectively. Experimental results demonstrate the 3D quality and the switching 2D/3D performance. Two novel 3D applications of the LC lens based on a tablet PC are discussed as well.
