Abstract
Much attention has been paid to the measurement and elimination of welding residual stresses during the development of welded structures. Few papers have been seen on the studz of welding residual stresses by means of photoelasticity. In 1975,Burger (3)studied fatigue problems with a defective epoxy specimen and in 1981, some Soiet researcher (4) investigated stress and fracture problems in a welded seam area by using an epoxy plate with a breach. These methods, however, can only be applied to working stresses, and show no way to study residual stresses due to welding.
