Abstract
Depositing energy into a target region deep inside an opaque system by controlling random wave scattering is essential in a wide range of applications. While multiple scattering of light results in a diffusive spread of the wave energy, controlling the incident wavefront of a coherent beam enables the suppression of wave diffusion and the delivery of energy deep inside disordered systems. We conduct experimental, numerical and theoretical studies to reveal the physical mechanisms contributing to energy deposition across an extended target inside a diffusive system, and also find the fundamental limit of energy enhancement using the wavefront control method.
