Abstract
In the past few years when the epidemic is raging, the incidence of depression has increased sharply, especially in adolescents. Severe patients have suicidal tendencies and behaviors. However, most current treatments rely on drug therapy. However, the rate of conventional drug treatment is low, and the risk of recurrence is high. The recurrence rate of newly diagnosed and treated patients is as high as 50% in the next 5 years. And long-term use of antidepressants has significant side effects, leading to discontinuation or incomplete treatment in some patients. In recent years, psychotherapy has been increasingly used in the treatment of depression, and has achieved good results. It mainly includes IPT, CBT, MBCT, etc. However, its mechanism remains unclear. The main purpose of this paper is to explore why psychotherapy can treat depression. This paper first explains what depression is, and then looks at how psychotherapy affects the brain, such as cognitive behavioral therapy can affect the limbic system. Behavioral activation therapy enhances the activity of the dorsal striatum, Anxiety-reducing prefrontal cortex activity and strengthen the function of 5 hydroxytryptamine. Then later, it explains the different psychological treatments that are applicable to which causes of depression and the experimental data that support them, and finally sums it all up.
