Abstract
Among all types of hepatitis viruses, only hepatitis B remains the unsolved medical problem in public health. Although the new confirmed cases of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) dropped during the last ten years, hepatitis B as the dangerous infectious disease remains serious. This article mainly analyzed the data of hepatitis B in the US, based on the prevalence, death rate and vaccination coverage in the US to conclude the current situation of HBV. Vaccines contribute to reducing the confirmed cases of newborns, but people who are currently having hepatitis B virus need to cure. More importantly, knowing the life quality of people who live with hepatitis B will help to decide the final goal of healing hepatitis B patients. Functional cure has been defined and the level of functional cure would be a huge progress compared to the current level of HBV therapies. By analyzing the data and trend of US confirmed cases of HBV, the necessity of functional cure can be concluded.
