Abstract
We present a novel numerical model describing the continuous-wave operation of Raman lasers. This so-called 'iterative resonator model' calculates how the forward- and backward-propagating Stokes and anti-Stokes electric fields inside the Raman laser cavity grow at the expense of the intra-cavity pump fields. We show that the iterative resonator model exhibits important advantages in comparison with the rate equation model used for e.g. hydrogen-based Raman lasers.
