Increased aviation emissions in recent times has led to an urgent call for increasing aerodynamic efficiency of an aircraft by reducing drag. This paper focused on aerodynamic drag reduction through biomimicry of a sharkskin denticle through 3D printing the denticle and incorporating it on a NACA0012 aerofoil. The denticles are strategically placed in forward and backward directions at 16% and 60% of chord line of an aerofoil, respectively. Wind tunnel experiment results indicate that the denticles can successfully reduce drag by a maximum of 11.2% and enhance lift by 11.3%. Conditional results presented in the paper indicates that biomimicry has great potential for further aerodynamic performance improvement.
