The research was based on a road-widening project as the background, and used the finite element numerical simulation method to optimized the design scheme of the original composite foundation. It was found that pile length and pile spacing have significant effects on the settlement of composite foundation, so the optimization scheme was designed with the pile length and pile spacing as parameters. The results showed that the average settlement of the composite foundation and the differential settlement of the road are both reduced greatly. The optimization scheme can improve the structural safety of the road after widening.
