John R. Solin was born in Des Moines, IA in 1944. He received a B.S.E.E. from MIT, an M.S.E.E. from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He worked as a survivability/vulnerability (S/V) engineer at McDonnell-Douglas from 1978 t0 1987 and as an S/V engineer and then S/V group engineer at Lockheed-Martin 1987 to 2004. S/V engineers harden systems against RF jamming, lasers, nuclear events, and natural space environments. From 2004 to 2013 he was a computer and control systems engineer at Lockheed-Martin. He retired in 2013 and now consults.
