Profile Summary

Md Didarul Islam (Didar) is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the North Carolina State University. He began his doctoral studies in Fall 2018, right after completing his Master’s in Computational Science from the University of Texas at El Paso. His research focus during his master's was data analytics application in the field of Additive Manufacturing of Functional Materials. This interesting choice was strongly influenced by his bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology back in 2013. After, his bachelor’s degree he worked as a Mechanical Engineering in the Oil and Gas Industry for more than two years until he decided to come back to school again.

Didar strongly believes in the importance of interdisciplinary knowledge exploration and research practices. At present, he is working with Dr. Jong Eun Ryu to explore the field of Plasmonics. His current research goal is to design and fabricate tunable metamaterials for plasmonics applications.
