Tunnel engineering has the characteristics of long route and large variation of stratum spatial characteristics. The traditional drilling sampling method has the characteristics of high cost and time-consuming, and the result interpretation lags behind, while the geophysical method has the problems of multi interpretation of information. Measurement while drilling (MWD) technology can collect accurate, fast and high-resolution information from boreholes to characterize the rock and soil mass with variable height encountered in tunnel excavation. It is convenient to objectively and reliably evaluate the rock and soil mass conditions in front of tunnel working face, and effectively reduce the workload of drilling core and indoor rock and soil physical and mechanical test. This paper summarizes the research progress of tunnel blasting excavation using MWD technology at home and abroad. This paper summarizes the research ideas and contents of MWD technology in tunnel engineering, puts forward the difficulties faced, and prospects the research and development direction of MWD technology.
