Profile Summary

Ygal Rotenstreich (MD) is the Director of the Electrophysiology Unit at Tel Hashomer Medical Center, and the Director of the Retinal Research Laboratory at the Goldschleger Eye Institute, Sheba Medical Center, Israel. He is an Associate Professor at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Israel. His research focuses on the development of novel treatments and diagnostic tools for neuro-retinal degeneration diseases. To this aim, he leads preclinical translational studies, clinical research, and develops innovative optical technologies. These include the development of novel treatments for diabetic retinopathy and retinal degeneration based on transplantation of inhibitors for the coagulation system and mesenchymal stem cells. He received the Sheba Medical Center Innovation Award and the Stein Award for Distinguished Researcher in Ophthalmology. He is an Editorial Board Member of the Translational Vision Science & Technology Journal and is an Associate Editor of Survey of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of the organizing committee of the advanced ophthalmic technologies conference (SPIE). Until May 2019 he served as the Chair of the Ethical and Regulation Committee of the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO, 2016-2019). He is actively collaborating with leading physicians, engineers, and scientists in Israel, Europe, and USA.
