SC033: Fiber Optic Components for Instruments
Fiber optic technology has served as the primary conduit for the information age, and accelerated the photonic instrument production revolution. Fiber optic components are fundamentally photonic devices, which contribute to the generation, manipulation, and detection or conversion of optical photons or light. Instrumentation based on fiber optic technology is becoming a large share of the instrumentation manufactured worldwide. Essential component functions are required to realize the design of instruments such as data telemetry links and systems for remote powering, sensing, and optical energy delivery. To address this technology, manufacturing philosophies must be augmented via basic knowledge of fiber optic component function and behavior.
