Course Instructor
SC477: Laser Machining for Manufacturing
This course will provide attendees with an overview of laser machining for manufacturing purposes. It will cover basic laser principles, descriptions of the main lasers used and emerging in industry (CO2, YAG, excimer and ultrafast), the most current applications (hardening, cladding, consolidation, welding, drilling, cutting, and more) and issues surrounding the cost of ownership and operation of laser systems. Many practical and useful examples will be included throughout. Laser micromachining will be emphasized as a particular example of multiple-industry application. A short introduction to laser safety and its implication in the workplace will be provided.
