Profile Summary

He is the Associate Dean, Academic Programs at the College of Optical Sciences, The University of Arizona. Previously, he was the Principal Illumination Engineer and VP of Consulting at Photon Engineering. He primarily does research and development of illumination systems including reflectors, displays, lightpipes, solar concentrators, and lighting systems. His primary interest areas are optimization, tolerancing, and rendering of illumination systems. At Arizona he teaches the project-based course Illumination Engineering. He is a member of SPIE, OSA, and recently the IESNA. He is active with the OSA and SPIE, for which he has served as a chair and committee member for a number of conferences, award committees, meetings committees, editor for journals, and advisory committees for membership magazines. When not doing optics, he can be found on his bike, collecting stamps, or reading.
